The HallMarwood Social Centre was opened in 1953 to commemorate the Coronation on land given by Mr William Stoddart of Hetherick Grange Farm, near Barnard Castle. It previously had chemical toilets and no running water but due to a £100,000 facelift involving £80,000 of lottery funding it now has modern facilities including a toilet block, storage room and access for the disabled, central building, supper room, a newly fitted kitchen and a new roof and car park.Only a few minutes drive from Barnard Castle, Marwood Social Centre is in a private rural location with parking for approximately 50 vehicles. Furnished and equipped to a high standard of comfort, the Centre meets the accessibility needs of all people and is the ideal venue for day or evening functions throughout the year. The hall is available for hire for: Regular activities ongoing in the hall include Domino Drives and Dances. FeaturesRooms: Large Main Hall 70’ x 30’ can conveniently be split into 2 rooms by heavy duty curtains.Heating: Available throughout the hall Maximum Capacity: 140 Facilities: The extensive kitchen facilities include a fridge/freezer, microwave and cooker. There is also a stage that has a PA system and can accommodate disco equipment and bands. There are also toilet facilities accessible to all. Equipment: The hall has adequate chairs and tables and there is ample crockery and cutlery available. Parking: Designated car park with approx. 50 spaces. Access: Access ramp into the hall. Worktops and sink at the kitchen are suitable for use by all. Induction loop for hearing impaired people. Directions
Heading from Barnard Castle follow the B6278 past Glaxo and take the second right hand turn next to the telephone box. The social centre is a large converted barn building with a large car park on the right hand side of the road from this direction.Heading from Staindrop take the B6279 Middleton in Teesdale road. Travel for 5 miles to Kinninvie, turn left and the Social Centre is situated 300 yards on the left hand side of the road.
