Trusthouse Charitable Foundation

The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation was formed out of a trust operated by the Council of Forte plc which inherited investments in the Granada Group. The Foundation was registered with the Charity Commissioners in 1997.

Its objects are such general charitable purposes as the Trustees in their discretion may from time to time determine. The Foundation currently distributes over £2 million each year. The average grant awarded by the Foundation is £5,000.

The Foundation currently makes over 300 grants a year of which the majority are small grants (averaging £5,000). A small number of larger grants (i.e. over £10,000) are awarded each year.

The Foundation offers grants under two separate programmes:

The Small Grant Programme (capital and revenue grants)

• Offers grants under £10,000 only to organisations with annual incomes below £300,000 p.a.
• Grants are for one-off purposes within their broad priorities of health care and disability, community support and education and arts, and must be spent within six months of receipt
• Grants can be for one-off capital items, such as equipment or small capital works, or towards six months running costs
• For requests of under £5,000, there is a programme to "fast track" the appeals so that applicants will know the outcome within six to eight weeks of receipt of the application

The Large Grant Programme (capital grants only)

• Is available to all organisations of any size
• Offers grants of normally between £10,000 and £30,000 for capital projects only (i.e. equipment, building or capital works)
• Capital grants will not normally be offered to very large capital projects (e.g. over £1m), but individual and discrete elements of very large projects may be considered when a significant proportion of the total appeal has already been raised
